Nancy Qian is the James J. O’Connor Professor of Economics at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. She holds a Ph.D. from MIT and has held positions at Yale University and Brown University. Her research focuses on development economics, political economy, and historical processes shaping economic outcomes. She co-directs the Global Poverty Research Lab and founded the China Cluster and China Econ Lab. Qian has been honored with the Econometric Society Fellowship and Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship, and her work addresses real-world challenges like famine mortality, climate change effects, and geopolitical dynamics. She teaches across MBA and PhD programs and is authoring a book on civilizational rise and decline.
