Nancy O. Gallman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Lewis & Clark College's College of Arts & Sciences. Her research focuses on early North America, borderlands, and cross-cultural legal systems.

Her legal history research examines the Florida borderlands during the 18th-19th centuries, analyzing how Indigenous, Spanish, African, and Anglo legal traditions created a shared cosmopolitan order. This work explores resistance to U.S. expansion through land disputes, slave ownership, and conflict resolution.
Recent publications include:
- Analysis of East Florida's political transformation (2015)
- Co-authored study on imperial margin justice systems (2018)
Her scholarship has earned prestigious recognition from:
- American Council of Learned Societies (2022)
- McNeil Center for Early American Studies (2017-2019 Barra Postdoctoral Fellowship)
