Nancy H. Chau is a Professor at the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, Cornell University, where she has been a faculty member since 1999. Her work bridges international economics, development economics, and regional economics, with a focus on information asymmetry and uncertainty in economic systems.

Chau's research specializes in three core areas:
- International trade policy, including trade restrictiveness indices and market-based approaches to labor/environmental standards
- Economic development, particularly in informal sectors and employment guarantee mechanisms

Her recent work addresses second-best trade policy arguments, direct farm payment impacts on exports, and human rights implications in trade systems. Publications span top journals like the Economic Journal and World Bank Economic Review, while her methodological approach combines theoretical modeling with policy evaluation.
