He conducts research within the Maria Eriksdotter research group (focused on clinical geriatrics) and Zheng Chang's psychiatric and pharmaco-epidemiology group.
His research specializes in the intersection of mental health and chronic diseases, with emphasis on:
- Epidemiological patterns of mental illness in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients
- Pharmacoepidemiology of psychiatric medications (antidepressants, ADHD drugs, benzodiazepines)
- Drug safety profiles in vulnerable populations including elderly and renal impairment patients
- Advanced methodologies like target trial emulation using registry data
Zhu's publications demonstrate consistent focus on neuropsychiatric comorbidities in somatic conditions, pharmacotherapy outcomes, and population health in Chinese cohorts. His work frequently utilizes large-scale registries and emphasizes clinical implications of mental health management in chronic disease populations.
