Nan Ma

Nan (Nancy) Ma is an Assistant Professor of Architectural Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Civil, Environmental, & Architectural Engineering department and director of the Laboratory for Healthy, Environmental, and Resilient Buildings (HERB-Lab). Her research integrates architectural, environmental, and computational methods to create healthy, sustainable, and occupant-centric buildings. She employs multi-disciplinary approaches combining simulations, experiments, and field studies using both instrumental and subjective measures.

• Education: PhD in Architecture (Building Technology) from University of Pennsylvania; Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Environments from University of Melbourne

Research focuses on building performance for thermal comfort, energy efficiency, IoT-enabled smart buildings, and indoor environmental quality. Her work spans collaborations with public health, biostatistics, computer science, and pediatric psychology. Notable awards include the 2021 Best Paper Award from Building and Environment and funding from Kleinman Center and GAPSA Fellowships.
