Nalo Hopkinson (she/her) is a Professor in the School of Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia, where she teaches fiction and speculative writing. Her research explores science fiction and fantasy as tools for centering non-normative voices and experiences.
- Born in Jamaica, raised across the Caribbean, US, and Canada
- Founded the Carl Brandon Society to address race and ethnicity in speculative fiction
- Former Writer-in-Residence at Clarion Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers’ Workshops
Her accolades include the Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award, World Fantasy Award, and Octavia E. Butler Memorial Award, with honorary Doctorates of Letters from Anglia Ruskin University and OCAD University. She co-wrote DC Comics’ House of Whispers (2018–2020), blending speculative fiction with graphic storytelling.
