Nalan Yurtsever

Nalan Yurtsever, MD is an Assistant Professor of Laboratory Medicine at Yale School of Medicine with expertise in transfusion medicine and laboratory hematology. She serves as director of the Clinical Pathology Laboratory at Bridgeport Hospital's Milford Campus and oversees apheresis services including red cell exchange, plasma exchange, and stem cell collections.

Dr. Yurtsever's research focuses on improving the management of patients requiring chronic transfusions, particularly those with sickle cell disease. She has made significant contributions to understanding Rh blood group variants, transfusion reactions, and red cell exchange procedures in special populations.

Her publications demonstrate expertise in transfusion medicine with emphasis on sickle cell disease management, immunohematology testing methodologies, and apheresis procedures. Recent work examines hematocrit changes in stored red blood cells, nonspecific reactivity in immunohematology testing, and novel approaches to transfusion support for complex patient populations.

Dr. Yurtsever has collaborated extensively with colleagues including Christopher Tormey, Henry Rinder, Alexa Siddon, Jeanne Hendrickson, and Matthew Madden on numerous research projects related to transfusion medicine and laboratory hematology.

Her educational background includes medical training at Ankara University School of Medicine, residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and fellowship in Transfusion Medicine and Apheresis at Yale New Haven Hospital.
