Professor Nakamura Yamaguchi is a faculty member at Nagasaki University, Japan, holding the rank of Professor. Associated with both the School of Social Environmental Design Engineering and the School of Structural Engineering, he specializes in the life-cycle management of civil infrastructure, with particular emphasis on bridges.
Research focus. His scholarly work spans the entire spectrum of infrastructure maintenance: database-driven bridge management systems, deterioration modeling using regression analysis and Markov chains, corrosion mechanisms in steel structures (including dry, wet, uniform, local, electrochemical, pitting and crevice corrosion), diagnostic inspection of concrete structures, and repair techniques for reinforced and pre-stressed concrete. He is especially known for integrating statistical analysis into predictive maintenance strategies.
International engagement. In May 2019, Professors Nakamura and Yamaguchi jointly delivered a two-day intensive lecture series at Shandong University’s Shimao School, Qianfoshan Campus, as part of the China–Japan–South Korea Asian Campus Program. The event introduced students to advanced methodologies for managing civil infrastructure and stimulated new research directions in structural health monitoring.
