Najarian Peters is an Associate Professor of Law and Linda D. Ferrell and Richard C. Tombari Honors Faculty Fellow at the University of Kansas School of Law. She joined KU Law in 2020, previously serving as the Inaugural Faculty Fellow and Assistant Professor of Law at Seton Hall Law School’s Institute for Privacy Protection. Her research focuses on privacy law, emerging technology governance, child privacy, AI ethics, and legal history. She teaches courses on Privacy Law, Torts, and Marginalized Bodies in Literature, Medicine, and Law.
Education: J.D. from Notre Dame Law School (2006) and B.A. from Xavier University of Louisiana (2002). Recognized for her work with the Joseph Ciraolo Memorial Award and Africana Studies Book Award during law school.
Research interests include racial privacy traditions, AI governance, and the intersection of technology with Black liberation. She founded PrivacyPraxis (2020), an annual interdisciplinary conference, and co-designed the Wellness in Democracy series. Key publications include articles in the Michigan Journal of Race & Law, Washington & Lee Law Review, and Seton Hall Law Review.
Awards include the KU Honors Faculty Fellowship (2023) and upcoming books on racial privacy and marronage in modernity.
