Gaia Bernstein is the Technology, Privacy, and Policy Professor of Law at Seton Hall University School of Law, co-director of the Institute for Privacy Protection, and co-director of the Gibbons Institute of Law Science and Technology. She specializes in law and technology, privacy, intellectual property, and regulatory policy. Her 2023 book Unwired examines tech addiction and corporate responsibility, earning multiple awards and media features. Bernstein holds a J.S.D. from NYU School of Law and has held fellowships at NYU’s Engelberg Center and Information Law Institute.
Her research focuses on regulating addictive technologies, privacy rights, and legislative responses to tech overuse. She has advised policymakers, testified before Congress, and organized conferences on tech regulation, including a 2024 event on kids’ screen time. Awards include Seton Hall’s 2024 Researcher of the Year and PROSE Award finalist honors.
Bernstein has published extensively in law reviews, including Vanderbilt Law Review and Wisconsin Law Review. She teaches courses on privacy law, intellectual property, and tech policy. Her advocacy extends to school outreach programs educating parents on tech overuse and privacy.
