Naim Maalouf, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Associate Director of the Charles and Jane Pak Center for Mineral Metabolism and Clinical Research. He specializes in kidney stones, parathyroid disorders, osteoporosis, and bone health. Dr. Maalouf earned his medical degree from the American University of Beirut, completed residency at Emory University, and a fellowship in Endocrinology & Metabolism at UT Southwestern.
His research focuses on kidney stone pathophysiology, novel therapies (e.g., hydroxycitrate), and metabolic contributors to stone formation. He investigates dietary protein effects, obesity, and vitamin D’s role in diabetes. He leads NIH-funded studies, including the Urinary Stone Disease Research Network site at UTSW.
Dr. Maalouf has received awards such as the Jean D. Wilson Award for mentorship and is a member of professional societies like the Endocrine Society. His work bridges clinical care and translational research in mineral metabolism disorders.
