Naila Moreira serves as a Lecturer in Writing & Public Discourse and Science Writing Specialist at Smith College's Jacobson Center for Writing, Rhetoric, and Professional Communication. She concurrently holds the position of Co-Director of the Journalism Concentration, teaching core courses including WRT 136: Journalism Principles and Practice, science writing on water resources/climate change, and cross-departmental instruction in Statistics & Data Science and Environmental Science & Policy.

Research Focus: Moreira's scholarly work bridges scientific discourse and public engagement through science journalism, environmental communication, and nature writing. Her expertise centers on translating complex geoscience concepts—particularly water resources and climate change—into accessible narratives while exploring data journalism methodologies and creative nonfiction forms. She actively investigates the intersection of scientific literacy and media practices in environmental contexts.
Professional Contributions: As Journalism Concentration Co-Director, she shapes curriculum development and student mentorship. Her creative output spans journalism (The Boston Globe, Daily Hampshire Gazette), literary publications (Terrain.org, Cider Press Review), with poetry forthcoming in Scientific American and a middle-grade novel scheduled for spring 2024 release through Walker Books US.
