معرفی
Nagma Parveen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, where she leads research at the intersection of soft matter physics, virology, and nanotechnology. Her work focuses on understanding virus-membrane interactions and developing advanced analytical techniques for single-particle imaging.
Education:
- PhD (2014) from University of Muenster, Germany
- MSc (2010) from Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai
- BSc (2008) from University of Calcutta (Lady Brabourne College), Kolkata
Dr. Parveen's research investigates viruses as functional biological nanoparticles within the soft matter framework. She studies the attachment-detachment kinetics of viruses to plasma membranes, utilizing biomimetic functionalized surfaces to understand virus-receptor interactions. Her laboratory employs surface-sensitive analytical techniques including QCM-D, SPR, and fluorescence microscopy to examine binding kinetics at both ensemble and single particle levels. Current research directions include developing expansion microscopy approaches to achieve super-resolved imaging (up to 20 nm resolution) of virus-host cell interactions.
Her publication record demonstrates expertise across virology, soft matter physics, and materials science, with significant contributions to understanding norovirus binding mechanisms and polyelectrolyte multilayer behavior in ionic environments. Her work bridges fundamental biophysical principles with potential applications in virus detection and capture technologies.
Dr. Parveen teaches Physical Chemistry, Biophysical Chemistry, Spectroscopy, and Fluorescence Imaging courses at IIT Kanpur, bringing her research expertise directly into the classroom. Prior to joining IIT Kanpur in February 2020, she conducted postdoctoral research at University of Leuven, Belgium (2017-2019) and Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden (2014-2017).
