Prof. Rabbi Naftali S. Cohn serves as Professor of Religion and Chair of the Department of Religions and Cultures at Concordia University, where he leads academic initiatives in religious studies.
He earned his Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from the University of Pennsylvania and received Rabbinic Ordination from RIETS (Yeshiva University), combining academic scholarship with traditional rabbinic training.
His research spans Religious Studies, Judaic Studies, Biblical Interpretation, and Rabbinic Literature, with particular focus on how ancient religious structures connect to broader theological concepts. His work examines the relationship between temple memory and rabbinic identity formation, as well as the connections between biblical narratives like the Tabernacle's construction and Genesis creation story.
Prof. Cohn's scholarship reveals how ancient Israelite readers found meaning in ritual spaces as reflections of cosmic order, using ritual theory to provide insight into ancient religious understanding.
As Chair of the Department of Religions and Cultures, he oversees academic programming and faculty development while maintaining an active research agenda in biblical and rabbinic studies.
