Professor Nafsika Alexiadou is affiliated with the Department of Applied Educational Sciences at Umeå University, Sweden. She holds a PhD in Educational Science from the University of Oxford (1999) and primary school teacher training from Democritus University of Thrace, Greece.
Her research focuses on educational policy at national and transnational levels, with specific interests in EU governance, inclusion and gender equality, higher education internationalization, and marketization of education. She explores policy dynamics, transnational influences, and the intersection of social inclusion with marketization in education systems.
Her recent publications analyze internationalization strategies in teacher education, inclusion frameworks in early childhood education, and privatization trends in Swedish school companies. She leads the research area on Preschool and after-school care at Umeå University and serves as co-Editor of Education Inquiry, while also being on the editorial boards of Research in Comparative and International Education and Research in Education.

- Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Research and Innovation Staff Exchange grant (2015-2017)
Supervision: Supervises current PhD students in areas such as health and education policy, early childhood education, and preschool diversity. Former supervisees include analyses on topics like blended learning, professionalism in Vietnam, and career trajectories.
Research Leadership: Currently leads the EU COST Action CA22121 (Rising Nationalisms and Shifting Geopolitics in European Higher Education/Research Openness), examining threats to academic freedom and international collaboration under geopolitical shifts.
