Nadya Pincus is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science at the University of Delaware, where she also serves as Director of Undergraduate Programs. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in linguistics from the University of Delaware and a B.A. from Bowdoin College.
Her research focuses on phonology, phonetics, prosody, and second language acquisition. She leads the PhonLab, which investigates the relationship between speech, language, and cognition. Key research themes include cross-linguistic variation in prosody, speech timing, and the acquisition of language-specific phonetic features. The lab employs methods like acoustic analysis, articulatory studies, and behavioral perception experiments, often conducted in diverse language communities worldwide.
Her work explores topics such as prosodic prominence in stressless languages, functional load hypotheses, and the perception-production link in L2 learners. She has contributed to understanding creaky voice in Vietnamese and Hungarian, as well as teaching methodologies for intonation.
Nadya’s research integrates fieldwork with experimental techniques, emphasizing the interplay between language structure and speech temporal properties. Her findings advance theoretical phonology and phonetics while informing language education practices.
