Prof. Dr. Nadir Weber is an Associate Professor of Early Modern Swiss History at the Department of Swiss History, University of Bern. His research focuses on foreign relations, political secrecy, human-animal relations in early modern periods, and comparative European perspectives on Swiss history. He leads the SNSF Eccellenza Project 'Republican Secrets: Silence, Memory, and Collective Rule in the Early Modern Period.'
Key research projects include exploring the cultural and political dynamics of early modern republics, with particular attention to courtly societies and the role of animals in historical contexts. His publications span topics from 17th-18th century political practices to the symbolism of animals in warfare and diplomacy. He regularly presents at international conferences, such as the Annual Meeting of the Swiss Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies.
Publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches, blending political history with cultural and environmental analysis. Notable works include co-editing Im Schatten der Macht (2024) and presenting on animal agency in early modern conflicts. His research bridges historical methodologies with contemporary debates on power structures and human-animal interactions.
