معرفی
Nadine Matton is a Teacher-Researcher at the National School of Civil Aviation (ENAC) since 2011, where she conducts research on human factors in aviation. She is a member of the 'Cognition in Complex Situations' research team within the Cognition, Languages, Ergonomics (CLLE) unit.
Dr. Matton completed her thesis in cognitive psychology and psychometrics at ENAC (2006-2009), followed by a post-doctorate at the same institution (2009-2011). Prior to her academic career in aviation, she earned her engineering degree from the National School of Engineers in Agri-Food Industry Techniques in Nantes with a specialization in applied statistics (1994-1997), while also completing undergraduate and master's level courses in Psychology (1998-2005) alongside her professional work as a consumer research officer (1997-2005).
Dr. Matton's research focuses on human factors in aeronautics, particularly examining the performance and limits of cognitive functioning in aviation contexts. Her work investigates individual differences in cognitive abilities, complex learning processes, and the management of cognitive resources in complex situations, with special attention to mental load assessment. These research areas have direct applications in the selection and training of pilots and air traffic controllers, addressing critical safety concerns in aviation operations.
Analysis of Dr. Matton's recent publications reveals a strong focus on cognitive neuroscience approaches to understanding aviation performance. Her work increasingly incorporates neurophysiological measures such as EEG, pupillometry, and fNIRS to objectively assess cognitive workload and mental states during flight tasks. There's a clear trajectory toward developing practical applications for pilot and air traffic controller selection and training, with recent meta-analyses synthesizing evidence on effective selection criteria. Her research bridges fundamental cognitive psychology with real-world aviation safety challenges.
Dr. Matton has co-supervised five PhD students to completion:
- Samy Chikhi (2022, co-supervised with Sophie Blanchet, Université Paris Descartes)
- Damien Mouratille (2022, co-supervised with Franck Amadieu, Université Toulouse Jean Jaurès)
- Olivier Lefrançois (2020, co-supervised with Mickaël Causse, ISAE)
- Benoît Valéry (2017, co-supervised with Frédéric Dehais, ISAE)
- Sébastien Puma (2016, co-supervised with André Tricot, Université Toulouse Jean Jaurès)
As a member of the 'Cognition in Complex Situations' team within CLLE, Dr. Matton collaborates with researchers across multiple institutions including ENAC, ISAE-SUPAERO, ONERA, and various universities. Her work often involves flight simulator studies and real-world aviation contexts, maintaining strong connections between academic research and practical aviation applications.
