Dr. Nadine Martin is a Professor and Laura H. Carnell Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the College of Public Health, Temple University. She is a leading researcher in aphasia rehabilitation, cognitive neuroscience, and speech-language pathology.
Her educational background includes a BA from Hofstra University, MEd from Northeastern University, and PhD in Cognitive Psychology from Temple University (1987). She received an honorary doctorate from Åbo Akademi University in 2014.
Dr. Martin's research focuses on the interplay between verbal short-term memory and language processing in aphasia. She applies cognitive and computational models to develop diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Her work emphasizes the integration of memory and language systems in neurorehabilitation.
Recent publications highlight trends in aphasia treatment, memory assessment, executive function contributions, and neural connectivity. Her studies often involve interdisciplinary methods, combining behavioral testing with neuroimaging and clinical insights.

- Honorary Doctorate, Åbo Akademi University, Finland (2014)
Dr. Martin has continuously secured research funding since 1993, primarily from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD). She mentors numerous students and collaborators in her lab and has advised research across aphasia, memory, and cognitive neuroscience. She teaches key courses including Speech and Language Disorders: Adults and Research Methods in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
She founded and directs the Eleanor M. Saffran Center for Cognitive Neuroscience, which houses multiple research labs focused on language, memory, and cognitive processing. The center supports collaborative, interdisciplinary research in cognitive neuroscience within the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
