Nadia Ismaïli serves as a Visiting Fellow at the Department of Private Law, Faculty of Law, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, following her tenure as Assistant Professor there from January 2018 to January 2025. She concurrently holds an Assistant Professor position in Family Law at Utrecht University and serves on the board of Verblijfblog.nl.
Her research spans migration law, family migration, human rights law, Dutch family law, custody and access, and the critical intersection of extremism with child protection systems. She investigates judicial approaches to radicalization cases, ideological influences in legal frameworks, and international human rights implications in family migration contexts, with significant contributions to understanding how Dutch courts balance security concerns against child welfare in radicalization scenarios.
Recent publications reveal a distinct trend toward interdisciplinary analysis connecting migration policy evolution, family law reforms, and counter-radicalization strategies within child protection systems. Her 2024-2025 works demonstrate increasing focus on practical implementation challenges in Dutch legal frameworks, particularly regarding family reunification policies and judicial decision-making in complex extremism cases involving minors.
Key recognitions include:
- Gezina van der Molenfonds Grant (2024)
- Toezicht kwaliteit en gebruik van ideologische duidingen Grant (2022)
- Toezicht kwaliteit en gebruik van ideologische duidingen Prize (2022)
