She holds key affiliations with the Leuven Centre for the Study of Islam Culture and Society (LCSICS) and the Leuven Interdisciplinary Centre Lived Religion and Meaning. Fadil's research examines the intersections of Islam, migration, and secularism through critical ethnographic frameworks. Her work explores:
- Radicalization policies and security governance in Europe
- Funerary practices in superdiverse societies
- Postcolonial racial capitalism and inequality
- Ethnographic ethics in conflict zones
- Muslim subjectivities in diaspora contexts
Her publications (2024-2025) demonstrate a consistent focus on deconstructing security discourses, with emerging interests in deathcare systems and racial capitalism. She leads projects like 'Deathcare: Funerary Practices in a Superdiverse Society' (2024-2028) and 'Deradicalizing the City' (2021-2025), supervising PhD researchers in these domains.
Fadil teaches courses including Anthropology in a Decolonizing World, Race, Ethnicity and the Postcolonial Condition, and Special Topics in the Anthropology of Islam. Her academic service includes directing anthropology programs and contributing to university policy committees.
