Nadia El-Mabrouk is a full professor in the Department of Computer Science and Operational Research at the University of Montreal. She holds a Ph.D. in Theoretical Computer Science from the University of Paris VII (1996). Her research focuses on computational biology and algorithmic methods for comparative genomics, particularly genome evolution, phylogenetic analysis, and genetic code evolution. She is affiliated with the Centre de Recherche Mathematiques and Robert Cedergren Centre.
Education: PhD in Theoretical Computer Science (Paris VII, 1996). Current courses include Genomic Bioinformatics (IFT3295/IFT6291/BIN6000).
Research interests emphasize genome rearrangement algorithms, reconciliation of gene/species trees, and evolutionary mechanisms like segmental duplication/loss. Notable contributions include synteny tree construction, endosymbiotic gene transfer modeling, and labeled Robinson-Foulds distance algorithms.
Publications span 1996-2024, with recent work on genomic reconciliation, tree pruning algorithms, and genetic code evolution in green algae. Active in bioinformatics conferences (RECOMB, ISMB) and has developed tools like CoreTracker and Synesth.
Labs/Teams: Leads computational genomics research group focusing on algorithmic approaches to evolutionary biology problems.
