Nadia Dowshen

Nadia Dowshen, MD, MSHP is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, and a faculty member at PolicyLab at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). She directs CHOP’s Adolescent HIV Services and co-founded the Gender and Sexuality Development Clinic, serving over 2,000 gender-diverse youth.

• Education: MD and Masters of Science in Health Policy Research, University of Pennsylvania

Her research focuses on digital health interventions for HIV prevention, medication adherence, and health equity for marginalized adolescents, including LGBTQ+ and homeless youth. Key subfields include telehealth, substance use treatment, and menstrual health policy.

Recent publications analyze HIV prevention apps, transgender youth care, and structural barriers to STI treatment. She leads the Treat YourSelf app initiative for peer support in HIV management.

Dr. Dowshen serves on the SIECUS Board of Directors, advocating for comprehensive sex education. Her clinical work spans CHOP and Covenant House, PA, a Philadelphia youth shelter.
