Nader Masmoudi is a Professor of Mathematics at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University. His primary affiliation is with the Department of Mathematics, where he specializes in the analysis of partial differential equations (PDEs) with applications to fluid mechanics, gas dynamics, and homogenization theory. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Paris Dauphine (1999) and a B.S. from École Normale Supérieure (1996).
His research focuses on fundamental questions in PDEs, including boundary layer analysis, free boundary problems, and nonlinear wave equations. Notable contributions include studies on the inviscid limit of Navier-Stokes equations, stability of Couette flows, and singularity formation in Keller-Segel models. He has also contributed to homogenization theory, particularly in nonsmooth domains and stochastic settings.
Teaching responsibilities have included advanced courses such as Homogenization and Boundary Layers, Complex Variables, Differential Geometry, and Functional Analysis. His pedagogical work emphasizes rigorous mathematical techniques alongside applied problem-solving.
Publications span over two decades, with recent works addressing blow-up dynamics in wave equations, boundary layer instabilities in supersonic flows, and rigorous derivations of vortex dynamics. Collaborations frequently involve international researchers in applied mathematics and fluid dynamics. Current research interests extend to machine learning applications, as seen in work on stochastic differential equation solvers for diffusion models.
