Néva Meyer is an Associate Professor of Biology at Clark University specializing in evolutionary developmental biology ('evo-devo'). Her research investigates the evolution of animal nervous systems using annelids (segmented worms) as model organisms.
She employs techniques like fate mapping, blastomere isolation, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, and RNA sequencing to study neural specification and nervous system development. Her work addresses whether centralized nervous systems evolved once or multiple times in animal history.
Meyer teaches courses in Neuroscience, Developmental Biology, Comparative Physiology, and Evo-Devo. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Washington (2005) and a B.S. from Purdue University (1998).
