Myung-sook Auh

Dr. Myung-sook Auh is a Senior Lecturer in Arts Education at the School of Education, Faculty of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences and Education, University of New England (UNE). She is also the Program Director of Asia ConneXions at the SiMERR National Research Centre at UNE, a role reflecting her leadership in global education through technology.

Her research centers on music education, creativity in music, and the use of videoconferencing in schools. She investigates how pre-service teachers develop confidence in teaching music, the prediction of musical creativity among students, and the effectiveness of videoconferencing for achieving curriculum outcomes and fostering cross-cultural understanding. Her work has significantly advanced the integration of digital tools in arts education, particularly in rural and remote contexts.

The articles she has published since 1995 span topics in music pedagogy, creativity, cross-cultural musical taste, and technology-enhanced learning. Recent works include analyses of K-pop's creative system and its links to traditional Pansori, and evaluations of international student exchanges via videoconferencing. Collectively, her publications reflect a sustained commitment to innovative, culturally responsive music education.

Dr. Auh has secured over $1 million in research funding, primarily through the Asia ConneXions program, which she founded in 2013 with an Australian Government grant. This program has connected over 900 schools across Australia and Asia, engaging nearly 28,000 students and 1,500 teachers in authentic cultural and language learning. She has commercialized the program in collaboration with Samyang Data Systems in South Korea, aligning with global trends in research innovation.

She teaches secondary and primary music pedagogy at UNE, coordinating core units in the Secondary Music Education program. Her teaching includes courses on music ICT and research-based pedagogy. She is a member of several professional associations, including AERA, BERA, NAfME, ISME, ASME, and the May Day Group.
