معرفی
Prof. Dr. Myron Peck is Head of the Department of Coastal Systems at the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ), where he leads research on marine ecological responses to climate change. He is also a Special Professor of Life Cycle Ecophysiology of Marine Animals at Wageningen University & Research, appointed in 2022 and funded by NIOZ. His work bridges laboratory, field, and modeling approaches to understand how environmental changes affect marine species, particularly fish.
Research Interests: Myron Peck’s research focuses on the physiological and ecological responses of marine organisms to climate stressors such as warming, acidification, and deoxygenation. He investigates life history traits, bioenergetics, and population dynamics of key species, especially early life stages of commercially and ecologically important fish. His group employs individual-based and biophysical models to project climate impacts on marine food webs and support sustainable fisheries management.
The recent publications highlight a strong trend toward climate change impacts on marine ecosystems, with emphasis on bioenergetics modeling, species distribution shifts, and ecosystem-level responses. Keywords across articles include marine ecology, climate change, bioenergetics, biodiversity, and sustainable fisheries, reflecting a cohesive research program on future ocean scenarios.
Scientific Leadership and Awards:
- Coordinator of the EU Horizon 2020 project FutureMARES
- Coordinator of the NO REGRETS project on offshore wind farm impacts (NWO-funded, €6.7M)
- Co-chair of the BiodivClim knowledge hub under Biodiversa+
- Invited speaker at the European Commission on climate impacts on fish stocks
Advising and Grants: While specific students are not listed, Peck leads a research group and supervises projects involving transdisciplinary collaboration with stakeholders. He secures substantial funding from EU, NWO, and international consortia, including Horizon 2020, Belmont Forum, and BiodivERsA. His grants support long-term ecological research, modeling initiatives, and ecosystem-based management solutions.
Labs and Teams: Peck leads the Coastal Systems department at NIOZ, which conducts integrated research on estuarine and marine ecosystems. His team combines experimental biology, field ecology, and advanced modeling to study marine food webs from plankton to fish. The group is central to large-scale projects like ACTNOW and LTER-LIFE, contributing to digital twin development and ecosystem forecasting.
