Eleonora Puccinelli is a Tenure Track Scientist at the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) within the Coastal Systems department. Her research integrates ecological and biochemical approaches to study the impacts of climate change and anthropogenic stressors on marine ecosystems.
- Focus Areas: Omega-3 fatty acids as biomarkers, phytoplankton dynamics, nitrogen cycling, anthropogenic pollution, and trophic interactions involving macrozoobenthos and pelagic zooplankton.
- Methods: Field campaigns, laboratory experiments, stable isotope (SI) and fatty acid (FA) analyses.
Key Projects: Leading research within the EU project ACTNOW, aiming to understand cumulative impacts on marine biodiversity. Her work explores the biodiversity-climate crisis nexus and pollution effects on coastal food webs.
Scientific Awards:
- WISE fellowship (2023) from NWO
- Women In Science Excel grant (2023) from NWO
Collaborations: Works with Prof. Myron Peck on European Community projects. Affiliated with NIOZ’s research facilities including the National Marine Facilities and library.
