Myles Patton is a Senior Lecturer at Ulster University Business School and Principal Economist at the Ulster University Economic Policy Centre (EPC) in Belfast. He joined the EPC in August 2023, bringing 18 years of experience in quantitative policy analysis, particularly using partial equilibrium models for agricultural and trade policies.
His educational background includes a PhD on the spatial determinants of agricultural land prices, which established his expertise in spatial economics.
Dr. Patton's research interests center on policy modelling, spatial economics, and agricultural economics. He has conducted impact assessments for Common Agricultural Policy reforms, trade agreements, Foot and Mouth Disease control strategies, and biofuel support policies. His methodological work includes developing spatial economic growth models and land use change models to analyze ecosystem services and the interdependence of population and employment growth.
As a key member of the Economic Policy Centre, Dr. Patton contributes to the centre's mission of providing evidence-based economic analysis to inform policy decisions. The EPC is a research hub within the Business School focusing on economic policy issues relevant to Northern Ireland and beyond.
