Mentor Mustafa is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Boston University's Metropolitan College. He holds a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology (2015), an M.A. in Biological Anthropology (2002), an M.Ed. in Higher Education Pedagogy (2006), and a B.A. in Archaeological Science (1999). His research spans cultural anthropology (religion and post-communist revival in Southeastern Europe) and biological anthropology (hunter-gatherer prehistory, stone tool technology, and human evolution). He teaches courses in human biology, cultural studies, and religious anthropology.
His interdisciplinary work bridges anthropology with biomedical research, as evidenced by publications on vascular biology, diabetes complications, and neurotoxicology. He has contributed to studies on endothelial dysfunction, microRNA regulation in disease, and nanoparticle-induced neurotoxicity. Mustafa emphasizes innovative teaching strategies to enhance student engagement in higher education.
Notable research themes include:
- Religious revival dynamics in post-communist Albania
- Stone tool technology and human evolution
- Endothelial cell dysfunction in diabetes and e-cigarette use
- Neurological effects of aluminum and silica nanoparticles
His recent biomedical research focuses on vascular biology, diabetes-associated pathologies, and molecular mechanisms of cellular stress. This includes investigations into miRNA regulation, oxidative stress pathways, and protein modification dynamics in disease contexts.
