Murray Lee is Professor of Criminology at the University of Sydney Law School. His research explores representations of crime, fear of crime, and criminalisation processes, with current projects on policing environmental protest and popular music. His ARC Discovery project (2024-2026) investigates historical relationships between musicians, audiences, and state regulation.
Research interests span criminology of music, policing technologies, and environmental justice. His work on sexting and body-worn cameras has influenced international policy. Awarded the American Society of Criminology's Best Publication in Cybercrime (2022), he serves on editorial boards of multiple criminology journals.
Supervises PhD candidates studying policing in cultural contexts and teaches courses on sensory criminology and media representations of crime.
