Muriel Desbois is Lecturer in Molecular Neuroscience at Keele University's School of Life Sciences. She holds a Genetics degree from University of Paris-Diderot, a European Magistère of Genetics diploma, and a Ph.D. completed at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Institut de Biologie Paris Seine. Her postdoctoral research was conducted at Scripps Research Institute and Seattle Children's Research Institute.
Research focuses on:
- E3 ubiquitin ligases in neurodevelopmental disorders
- Molecular mechanisms of axon morphology maintenance
- Ubiquitin-proteasome system in neural development
Using C. elegans models, her lab investigates:
- MYCBP2-related signaling pathways
- Axon termination mechanisms
- Cdk5 kinase regulation
Key contributions include identifying the first in vivo E3 ubiquitin ligase that inhibits Cdk5 and characterizing MYCBP2 mutations causing a new neurodevelopmental disorder (MDCD). Her research combines genetic, biochemical, and proteomic approaches to study neuronal development.
Desbois mentors undergraduate and graduate researchers in molecular neuroscience techniques and oversees projects on neural development pathways.
