Murat Belge is a Professor at Istanbul Bilgi University, where he has been a faculty member since 1995. His academic and intellectual work spans history, leftist political movements, militarism, literature, and cultural studies. His research interests center on the intersections of politics, culture, and society in Turkey. Murat Belge has played foundational roles in several influential Turkish intellectual journals. He was a founding editor and publisher of Halkın Dostları (1969–1971), Birikim (1975–1980), and Yeni Gündem (1986–1989), which have shaped critical thought in Turkey.
He has been conducting seminars on civil society since 2003 within educational and certification programs at the NGO Training and Research Unit.
