Mridula Sharma is a Professor of Audiology at Flinders University’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences, with significant contributions to auditory neuroscience and clinical research. She serves as Academic Lead for the Masters of Audiology program and maintains collaborations with institutions including the University of Auckland, University of Potsdam, and Capital Medical University.
- Education: PhD from Macquarie University
Her research focuses on hearing loss, auditory processing, and speech perception, particularly in noisy environments and across developmental stages. She investigates the interplay between cognitive neuroscience (attention, memory) and listening efficiency, with applications in pediatric and geriatric populations.
Recent publications highlight trends in systematic reviews, electrophysiology, and intervention studies (e.g., group singing for hearing loss). While her peer-reviewed work dominates audiology and neuroscience journals, she also contributes to industry commentary and policy through invited publications.
Grants include major awards from the ARC Linkage, NHMRC, and HEARing CRC, totaling over $20 million in competitive funding. She supervises 5 active PhD students and has mentored 14 PhD and 4 Masters candidates to completion since 2007.
Professional roles include Chair of the Audiology committee for the International Association for Communication Sciences and Disorders (IALP), Associate Editor of Folia Phoniatrica et Logopaedica, and a board member of the International Evoked Response Audiometry Study Group.
