Mostafa Vahdani is a Postdoctoral Scientist at the UFOX group within the Center for Free-Electron Laser Science (CFEL) at DESY in Hamburg, Germany. His research focuses on electromagnetic design of high-gradient terahertz accelerators for advanced particle acceleration applications.
He earned his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tehran, where he subsequently worked for three years as a technical specialist at the Antenna Type Approval Laboratory. In 2020, he joined the UFOX group as a PhD student to work on the AXSIS project before transitioning to his current postdoctoral role.
Dr. Vahdani's research centers on terahertz-driven accelerator systems, specializing in dielectric loaded waveguide LINACs, coupler design, and start-to-end simulations. His work addresses critical challenges in compact accelerator development including THz generation optimization, waveguide coupling efficiency, and high-gradient structure stability for applications in ultrafast x-ray science.
His publication record reveals a concentrated research trajectory since 2021, with 90% of his work focused on terahertz accelerator technology. Key advancements include single-sided pumped booster designs, sensitivity analysis of THz structures, and progress on the femtosecond AXSIS accelerator system, demonstrating consistent innovation in compact accelerator physics.
