Professor Moschos Morfakidis-Filactos holds a prominent academic position as Professor of Byzantine and Modern Greek Literature at the University of Granada, Spain. He is also the President of the Centre of Byzantine, Modern Greek, and Cypriot Studies and a member of the Board of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting. In October 2024, he was honored with the title of Doctor honoris causa by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) for his exceptional contributions to Greek Studies.
His research focuses on three primary areas: the Catalan presence in Greece, Byzantine and Modern Greek Literature, and the narratives of Spanish travelers to Greece during the 19th and early 20th centuries. He has authored over 15 monographs and edited volumes, alongside 150+ articles and book chapters. Notably, he translated works between Greek and Spanish literatures, including his seminal edition of Francisco de Agramonte y Cortijo’s treatise on Greece during World War I.
Professor Morfakidis-Filactos has been a driving force in advancing Greek Studies in Spain through initiatives such as the Research Group “Studies on Medieval and Modern Greek Civilization” (2000–2012) and the Postgraduate Programme “Medieval and Modern Greece” (2004–2012). He delivered a keynote lecture titled ‘Athens of the Spanish-Speaking Travellers (19th and early 20th Centuries)’ at his award ceremony, highlighting his expertise in cross-cultural historical narratives.
