Morten Stinus Kristensen is a Research Fellow at the University of Stavanger's Center for Gender Studies, affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences. He holds a PhD in Communications and Media from the University of Illinois. His research focuses on intersections of Gender Studies, Media Studies, and Journalism Studies, examining how social differences are constructed in media and the manifestation of reactionary movements in culture. He is part of the POL-AID project (NFR-funded), analyzing overlaps between Nordic populism and identity politics in Danish media.
Education: PhD in Communications and Media (UIUC). Research interests include racialization, digital counterpublics, and journalistic ethics. He explores how Danish media constructs notions of 'Danishness' and marginalizes minority identities, particularly among Muslims. His work critiques anti-wokeness discourses and examines transnational media narratives through case studies like Black Mirror.
Publications span academic journals (Women, Gender and Research; Journalism Studies) and popular media (Dagbladet Politiken). His analyses often bridge theory and practice, addressing contemporary challenges in media representation and cultural identity. Grants include the Norwegian Research Council's POL-AID project (2023–present). No formal advisees are listed, though his collaborative projects may involve early-career researchers.
Labs/Teams: Core member of the POL-AID research group, collaborating with institutions across the Nordic region to study media landscapes and populist rhetoric.
