Nete Nørgaard Kristensen is a Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Copenhagen's Faculty of Humanities. She has been in this position since 2019, following previous roles as Associate Professor (2006-2019) and Assistant Professor (2003-2006) in the Department of Media, Cognition and Communication.
Dr. Kristensen earned her PhD in Media Studies from the University of Copenhagen in 2003, following an MA in Media Studies (1999) and BA in Film & Media Studies (1995). Her academic journey also includes French language certifications (DELF and DALF) from Université Alphes Grenoble (1996).
Her research focuses on the intersection of media, culture, and journalism, with particular expertise in cultural journalism and cultural criticism across media platforms. She examines the evolving relationship between cultural journalists and their sources in the cultural industries, media sociological perspectives on cultural journalism, and longitudinal studies of cultural journalism's transformation in news media. Her current work explores audience engagement in scandals across media as Principal Investigator of the DFF2-research project 'EXPOSING: the Public Value of Socio-Mediated Scandals in the Digital Age' (2024-2028).
Analysis of her 122 research outputs reveals a consistent focus on cultural journalism's evolution in the digital age, with special attention to the changing roles of cultural critics, the blurring boundaries between lifestyle and cultural journalism, and European perspectives on cultural participation. Her work demonstrates interdisciplinary reach across media studies, cultural sociology, and journalism research, with increasing attention to digital cultural participation and the societal value of cultural discourse.
