Morten Kinander is a Professor at the Department of Law and Governance at BI Norwegian Business School, where he also serves as Head of the Centre for Financial Regulation. His expertise spans capital market law, corporate law, financial regulation, and legal philosophy. He holds a Ph.D. in Law from the University of Bergen and has held academic roles since 1996, including positions at the University of Bergen and Columbia University. His research focuses on regulatory frameworks for financial markets, legal theory, and the intersection of law and political systems.
Key research interests include market abuse regulation under EU directives (MAR/MAD), conflicts of interest in finance, administrative law, and judicial accountability. His work critically examines regulatory impacts on moral judgment and the evolution of legal systems, particularly in post-Brexit contexts. Kinander has contributed over 29 publications since 2000, spanning books, journal articles, and policy reports.
He has advised on legal reforms, including Norway's transition to EU financial regulations and corporate sustainability due diligence. His writings address ethical dilemmas in finance, the role of constitutional courts in Poland and Hungary, and the philosophical foundations of legal systems. Despite no listed advisees, his interdisciplinary approach bridges law, philosophy, and social sciences.
