Moritz Gerstung

Moritz Gerstung is a Professor at the University of Heidelberg and Division Head for Artificial Intelligence and Cancer Evolution at the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ). His research focuses on applying machine learning to understand tumor growth and evolution through cancer genome analysis.

Education: Undergraduate in Physics at the University of Freiburg (Germany), PhD in Computational Biology from ETH Zurich (2012). Postdoctoral training at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (UK), followed by a Research Group Leader role at EMBL-EBI (2015–2021).

Research interests include cancer data science, integrating computational methods to study tumor development and genomic evolution. His work bridges cancer biology, AI, and big data analytics.
