Moriba Jah serves as an associate professor of aerospace engineering and engineering mechanics at the University of Texas at Austin, holding the Mrs. Pearlie Dashiell Henderson Centennial Fellowship in Engineering. He concurrently acts as a nonresident scholar with the Carnegie Space Project and leads the Space Security, Safety, and Sustainability program at the Robert Strauss Center for International Security and Law.
His research centers on space situational awareness and orbital sustainability, with expertise in space object detection, tracking, identification, and spacecraft navigation. He advocates for policy-driven solutions like controlled re-entry protocols and circular space economies to mitigate orbital debris, emphasizing that "orbits will be lost—and people will die—later this decade" without urgent action. His work bridges astrodynamics with international security frameworks to address traffic management in congested orbital environments.
