Morgina Akter

Morgina Akter is a Lecturer at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh, and a PhD candidate at Aquaculture and Fisheries Institute (AFI), Wageningen University & Research (WUR). Her academic journey includes degrees from the University of Chittagong (BSc/MSc Marine Science), followed by an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Aquaculture, Environment & Society from the University of the Highlands and Islands (UK), University of Crete (Greece), and University of Nantes (France). Prior to her academic roles, she worked as a Research Assistant at WorldFish, Bangladesh.

Her research focuses on sustainable aquaculture practices, particularly optimizing feeding strategies in carp-tilapia polyculture systems to enhance efficiency and resource use. This work addresses critical challenges in Southeast Asian aquaculture systems, emphasizing resilience and profitability. Her publications explore topics like parasitic infections in farmed fish and stock assessments of marine species in the Bay of Bengal.

Morgina’s PhD project under Dr. Johan Schrama at WUR aims to develop feeding methodologies for polyculture systems, balancing ecological sustainability and economic viability. She contributes expertise in aquaculture health, fisheries management, and marine science, aligning with global food security goals.
