Jorge Sellare

Jorge Sellare is an Associate Professor in the Forest and Nature Conservation Policy (FNP) group at Wageningen University. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Göttingen and a Master in Public Policy from the University of Erfurt. His research focuses on technological and institutional change in agri-food systems to reconcile rural development with nature conservation, emphasizing interdisciplinary policy evaluation and global value chains.

Before joining Wageningen, he led the junior research group 'Transformation and Sustainability Governance in South American Bioeconomies (SABio)' at the University of Bonn's Center for Development Research (ZEF). His work addresses how policies, programs, and technologies shape agri-food markets, with a focus on developing countries.

Key research areas include agricultural economics, development economics, sustainability governance, and global value chains. He has published extensively on fairtrade social premiums, corporate due diligence, and the impacts of sustainability standards on smallholder farmers.
