Morgan Robertson is a Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His research focuses on political ecology, US water policy, and environmental markets, with expertise in wetland banking, ecosystem services valuation, and Clean Water Act compensation mechanisms.
He holds a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Wisconsin–Madison (2004), an M.A. in Geography from the University of Minnesota (1998), a PGDipSci in Tropical Geography from James Cook University (1995), and a B.A. in Biology and Anthropology from Grinnell College (1993).
His research examines the commodification of ecosystem services and market-based environmental policy, particularly wetland mitigation banking and compensation frameworks under the Clean Water Act. Recent work investigates biodiversity offsetting systems and neoliberal environmental governance.
Dr. Robertson teaches GEOG 139: Living in the Global Environment and GEOG 439: US Environmental Policy and Regulation. He has advised multiple graduate students including Laura Lawler (M.S.), Nicolle Etchart (Ph.D.), and Eric Nost (Ph.D.).
