معرفی
Moon Duchin is a Professor of Mathematics at Tufts University and Senior Fellow at the Tisch College of Civic Life. Her work bridges pure mathematics, applied social justice research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She specializes in geometric group theory, geometric topology, and the mathematics of redistricting.
Educations
- PhD in Mathematics, University of Chicago (2005)
- MS in Mathematics, University of Chicago (1999)
- BA in Mathematics and Women's Studies, Harvard University (1998)
Research Interests
Her pure math research focuses on metric geometry of groups and surfaces, using dynamical systems. Since 2016, she has pioneered the MGGG Redistricting Lab, applying geometric and computational methods to study fair redistricting. This work integrates Markov chain models, geography, and policy to combat gerrymandering. She also explores the social foundations of mathematical authority, technology in law, and racial justice.
Labs & Teams
Founder of the Metric Geometry and Gerrymandering Group (MGGG), now the MGGG Redistricting Lab, which operates at the intersection of mathematics, civics, and policy. The lab’s 2021 projects included participatory mapping in ten U.S. states.
