Moochul Shin

Moochul Shin is an Associate Professor at the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering in Western New England University, where he also serves as Chair of Construction Management and Chair of Civil & Environmental Engineering. His academic leadership and research focus on infrastructure resilience and innovative material applications.

Shin’s research spans structural engineering, materials science, and railroad infrastructure. Key areas include:

• Retrofitting and repair of infrastructure systems
• Smart materials like shape memory alloys and fiber-reinforced polymers
• Prestressed concrete crossties and fastening systems
• Multi-hazard analysis and hybrid simulations
• Reinforced/presstressed concrete design

He leads the SMArt Structures Lab and has held leadership roles in academic administration since 2022.
