Monique O’Connell is a Professor of History at Wake Forest University, holding the James P. Barefield Endowed Faculty Fellowship. Her research focuses on Renaissance Venice, early modern empires, and interdisciplinary approaches to historical inquiry. She has taught courses integrating chemistry, theater, and digital humanities, such as 'Magic, Science, and Alchemy in Europe' and 'The Floating City: Public Life in Venice.'

Research & Publications: O’Connell authored Men of Empire: Power and Negotiation in Venice’s Maritime State (2009) and co-authored The Mediterranean World: From the Fall of Rome to the Rise of Napoleon (2016). Her work explores economic exchange, print culture, and botany in early modern Europe.
