Dr. Monique L. Akassi serves as Professor and Director of First-Year Writing in the Department of English at Howard University, with a career progression from Adjunct Instructor to Full Professor across multiple HBCUs. She advises the Theta Theta Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta and founded Howard University's annual Composition, Rhetoric, and Research in Artificial Intelligence Conference alongside the Undergraduate Journal On Research.
Her research pioneers intersections of Africana Composition, Rhetoric, and Artificial Intelligence, developing postcolonial pedagogies that leverage marginalized students' cultural backgrounds for writing instruction. Current work critically examines techno racism, misogyny, and transgressive teaching methodologies in AI-driven education, directly informing her forthcoming books on students' AI rights and ethical frameworks.

She leads the Composition, Rhetoric, and Research in Artificial Intelligence Conference while directing Howard's First-Year Writing program, creating collaborative spaces for examining AI's societal implications through writing and rhetoric scholarship.
