Dr. Monique Balthazar is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing at Pennsylvania State University. Her work focuses on sleep health, brain health, and social determinants of health, particularly among vulnerable populations including racial, ethnic, sexual, and gender minorities. She holds a Ph.D. in Nursing Science from Case Western Reserve University (2014).
Dr. Balthazar’s research integrates multidisciplinary approaches to address health disparities through targeted interventions. Her recent work examines intersections between sleep, neurodegenerative biomarkers, and social inequities, with a focus on marginalized communities. She also investigates stigma experiences in healthcare settings and the mental health of transgender and gender-diverse populations.
Her professional contributions include policy advocacy for equitable healthcare systems and active participation in organizations advancing LGBTQ+ health equity. Dr. Balthazar’s research is supported by grants such as NIH P2CHD041025, reflecting her commitment to translational nursing science.
