Dr. Monika Mihm Carmichael is a Senior Lecturer in Farm Animal Reproduction at the University of Glasgow, based in the McCall Building. Her research focuses on understanding the endocrine and intra-ovarian mechanisms governing follicle development, particularly in bovine systems, with implications for animal fertility and reproductive disorders. She has also contributed to veterinary education research, investigating student training and blended learning approaches.
Her work explores topics such as dominant follicle selection, oocyte quality, and the relationship between follicle health and conception rates. Key projects include using proteomic profiling to study bovine follicular fluids and evaluating the impact of dietary restrictions on follicular gene expression. She has published extensively in journals like Biology of Reproduction and Animal Reproduction Science.
Dr. Carmichael has received a Commonwealth Fellowship and Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) grants. Her teaching contributions include developing clinical modules and assessing student competence in calving procedures through simulator training.
